Dean Goldfein, Head of School
As founding Head of School at CCJDS, Mr. Goldfein has earned widespread respect from colleagues, students, and parents. He possesses extensive experience in curriculum development, faculty hiring and evaluation, student assessment, fundraising and working with parent groups and governing boards as well as an extraordinary passion and commitment to education of Jewish youth. Mr. Goldfein serves as a Board Member of the California Association of Independent Schools (CAIS). He served as Dean of Students and history teacher at Sacred Heart Preparatory and taught English at Brandeis Hillel Day School. MEd Administration, SFSU; MA, University of Virginia; BA History, UC Berkeley. Joined CCJDS in 2000 as the first Head of School.
Lisa Friedman, Dean of Faculty
Ms. Friedman brings extensive experience in elementary teaching and teacher education, including four years teaching children and education graduate students at Mills College, 12 years teaching many different grade levels in both public and private schools, and leadership roles in program and faculty evaluation, curriculum development, and parent education. At CCJDS, she oversees professional growth, standardized testing, program differentiation, and curriculum development and methodology in both General and Hebrew/Judaic Studies. MA, Education and BA, Psychology, UC Berkeley. Joined CCJDS in 2002.
Lawrence Delaney, Middle School Dean of Students
Mr. Delaney, originally from Wales, taught second through sixth grades at schools in Oakland, Germany, and Dubai prior to coming to CCJDS. He brings great enthusiasm for teaching, as well as music and athletic talents as leader of our rock band and one of our physical education instructors. Mr. Delaney enjoys introducing the students to cricket and non-contact rugby. He has authored a children’s book, “Detective Sniffer Investigates,” a best seller on Amazon. Visual Cultures (Magna cum Laude), University of Derby in England; MA, Media and Cultural Studies, Macquarie University, Sydney, Australia; Post-Graduate Certificate in Education and MEd in Education, Open University, England. Joined CCJDS in 2006.
Dr. Michele Spitulnik, Director of Professional Learning and the Center for Science Education
Dr. Spitulnik taught high school chemistry and physics in Michigan
before pursuing a doctorate in science education from the University of
Michigan. In 2002, she joined the faculty at the Graduate School of
Education at UC Berkeley, designing middle school science curriculum and
implementing professional development courses for science teachers. She
helped to design the scope and sequence of the K-8th grade CCJDS
science curriculum, which is unparalleled in our local schools. Dr.
Spitulnik teaches 6th-8th grade science, mentors General Studies
teachers for lower school science education, and oversees teacher
professional development. BA, Chemistry, Vassar College; MS, Materials
Engineering and PhD, Science Education, University of Michigan. Joined
CCJDS in 2008.
Hadas Rave, Director of Jewish Life
In 1997 Ms. Rave moved from the United States to Israel and taught for nine years at the alternative Meitar School on Kibbutz Bet Oren, before coming to CCJDS. Ms. Rave currently coordinates the Shir HaLev service learning program and the Israel education program at CCJDS. She also teaches Judaic studies in the lower grades. Studied Communications at Drury University; BA, Elementary Education, Warren Wilson College, North Carolina. MA in Jewish Education, Hebrew Union College. Joined CCJDS in 2008.
Eden Bruner, Development Director
Ms. Bruner brings to CCJDS her extensive experience in public service, community leadership, and fundraising. Prior to joining CCJDS, she was the Director of Development and Marketing at Jewish Family and Children’s Services of San Francisco, the Peninsula, Marin and Sonoma Counties. Ms. Bruner has also worked as a diplomat with the United States Department of State in Washington D.C. and the former Soviet Union. MA, International Relations and Economics, Johns Hopkins Paul H. Nitze School of Advanced International Studies; BA, Soviet and Russian Studies, Harvard University. Joined CCJDS in 2011.
Abby Seitelman, Admissions Director
Ms. Seitelman brings her knowledge of public relations, human relations, marketing and sales to CCJDS. Her career spans from working in consumer journalism and made its way to the Jewish private sector. Prior to joining CCJDS, Abby served as the Membership Director at Temple Isaiah in Lafayette, CA. BA, Communication Studies with an emphasis in Organizational Communication and a minor in Public Relations, California State University, Chico. Joined CCJDS in 2016.
Rebecca Murray, Office Manager and Registrar
Ms. Murray wears many hats in her job as CCJDS’s Office Manager. She takes care of all the office support, keeps open lines of communication with our parents, helps our students when they are not well or hurt... just to name a few of her duties! She has worked in marketing, management, sales, and administrative support for high tech and non-profit organizations. She also has extensive experience managing a children's business in the East Bay. BA, Mass Communications, UC Davis. Joined CCJDS in 2006.
Monica Frame, Counselor
Ms. Frame, LCSW, worked for Jewish Family and Children’s Services in San Francisco for ten years providing individual and family therapy, and developed and facilitated socialization groups for children. She now works, consults, and speaks at schools and preschools throughout the East Bay. MSW, SFSU; BA, Music, California State University, Hayward. Joined CCJDS in 2006.
Sharon Friedman, Math Specialist
Sharon taught, coached teachers, and worked as an administrator in Hayward and Berkeley schools for over 20 years, including as the district Coordinator for Professional Development. She majored in Philosophy at Barnard College before getting her teaching credential and Masters at UC Berkeley. Sharon is passionate about teaching math and even wrote math content for Khan Academy. She loves supporting teachers and students with the math program. Joined CCJDS in 2014.
Jeanie Goldeen Conneran, Librarian
Ms. Conneran has been involved with CCJDS since its opening in 2001. Her younger son, David, was a third grader that first year. Ms. Conneran began creating our library by purchasing books for the school. For the last five years, Ms. Conneran has been busy automating the library collection. There are now over 7,000 books in the collection, with the entire catalog available online. Ms. Conneran, a fully credentialed teacher, has a Master’s degree in Children’s Literature and completed the Reading Specialist program at California State University at Hayward. She has been successfully teaching reading for more than 20 years.
Michael Brent, Operations and Office Support
Mr. Brent joined the CCJDS staff in 2012. Previously, he was an active volunteer at the school as his children attended CCJDS from kindergarten through 8th grade. Mr. Brent served as Co-President of the CCJDS Parents' Association for five years. He has a BA in Economics from UC Santa Cruz and an MA in Economics from UC Davis. He has taught at the University of the Pacific, University of Phoenix, Fashion Institute of Design and Merchandising, and most recently in the Contra Costa Community College District at Los Medanos and Diablo Valley Colleges.
Bob Klein, Bookkeeper and Assistant to the Business Manager
Mr. Klein joined CCJDS in 2008. He brings his broad accounting experience and expertise to ably support the CCJDS Business Manager. Both parents and staff appreciate Mr. Klein’s calm and methodical approach combined with his positive disposition and friendly demeanor. He is a graduate of Cleveland State University, majoring in Accounting/Business Management, and a veteran of the United States Navy.
